Favorite soccer team: Carlisle UTD
If I could change one rule, I'd: Follow the lead of Rugby… Allow only the captain of the team to address the referee in a respectable manor in order to eliminate aggravation between players and officials on the field.
Best thing about working at USA: Experiencing the difference in the culture of sports coaching between countries. Influencing young players in their development from grass roots, recreational soccer to competitive Travel level.
Favorite aspect of coaching: Watching players incorporate skills and tactics learned in coaching practice to a competitive game situation.
Best moment in coaching: Seeing the results of 5 years with my first team as head coach, from U10 Grass Roots (Rec) standard to U16 competing against well established opponents in National Tournaments. The team is still playing competitively today at Adult level in Northern England Leagues.
Best moment I've ever witnessed live at a sporting event is:
1998-99 season: Carlisle UTD goal keeper Jimmy Glass, advancing up the field for a corner kick in the final minute of injury time. Glass hit a volley deflected from the Plymouth Goal Keeper scoring in the final 10 seconds to keep Carlisle UTD in the Football League!
If i wasn't coaching soccer I'd be: Teaching or traveling!
