Mark Tolley

Associate Director

Company position: Associate Director
Mark Tolley
Year joined USA Sport Group: 2007
Originally from: Carlisle, England
Qualifications:
BA Hons Physical Education and Health Development
FA Level 2
USSF Licensed
SAQ Preliminary award
Coaching experience:
2001-2008: Cumbria County Council Head Coach
2004-2007: University of Central Lancaster, St Martins Campus, Carlisle
2005-2007: HCC, Carlisle U13 Girls
2007-Present: Somerset Hills Soccer Club
Coaching highlights:
Seeing the results of 5 years with my first team as head coach, from U10 Grass Roots (Rec) standard to U16 competing against well established opponents in National Tournaments. The team is still playing competitively today at Adult level in Northern England Leagues.
Favorite sports team:
Carlisle United
If I could change one rule, I'd:
Follow the lead of rugby… Allow only the captain of a soccer team to address the referee in a respectable manor in order to eliminate aggravation between players and officials on the field.
Best thing about working at USA Sport Group:
Experiencing the difference in the culture of sports coaching between countries. Influencing young players in their development from grass roots, recreational soccer to competitive Travel level.
Favorite aspect of coaching:
Watching players incorporate skills and tactics learned in coaching practice to a competitive game situation.
Best moment I've ever witnessed live at a sporting event:
1998-99 season: Carlisle United goal keeper Jimmy Glass, advancing up the field for a corner kick in the final minute of injury time. Glass hit a volley deflected from the Plymouth Goal Keeper scoring in the final 10 seconds to keep Carlisle United in the Football League!
If I wasn't working for USA Sport Group, I'd be:
Teaching or traveling!
