Coaching highlights: I have trained a number of teams in my first full year in the States. I worked with 3 U14 girls teams: U14 SPF Galaxy (2nd place finish); U14 MSC Blue Thunder (2nd place finish); U14 SPF Red Devils (1st in JAGS premier 2). I also worked with the U10 boys A,B and C teams in Scotch Plains along with the U9 boys in Metuchen.
Coaching experience: My background involves coaching throughout 4 different continents including teams in Scotland, the US and Australia. In addition I have coached sessions on my travels around South-East Asia. My experience has seen me work with teams of all ages from U-8 through to U-18 level.
Favorite soccer team: Glasgow Celtic
If I could change one rule, I'd: The limit on substitutions in the professional game. I feel it reduces the potential of the game by allowing the deterioration of play due to fatigue etc.
Best thing about working at USA: I love that I have the opportunity to work in the US, teaching children a game I love and experiencing a new culture whilst constantly developing my own skills.
Favorite aspect of coaching: Seeing improvements in players who may have little or no confidence in their ability. I have a particular affiliation with players who have returned to playing following injury as I feel I can use my coaching style to give them the confidence to improve again.
Best moment in coaching: I trained a team in Launceston, Tasmania. They were a U-18 team who had been introduced to the league the previous year with little success. During my tenure I took them to 3rd place in the league with a cup semi-final in my first year in charge. The team were elated with their rapid improvement and have since continued to improve as a squad with a number of the team now playing regularly in the senior and reserve squads.
Best moment I've ever witnessed live at a sporting event is:
Watching Scotland live for the fist time with my uncle as a small boy. I've never felt anything like that ever since at a sporting event!
If i wasn't coaching soccer I'd be: Traveling the World, broadening my horizons even further.
